Helping rural people access benefits

In some parts of India, people in rural communities suffer from hunger and poverty. India’s government offers options and help, but without basic ID cards and information, vulnerable people may not realize that they can access assistance.

DIF changes that. We work at the grassroots level to link rural people with the documents and programs that they need. Here’s information from the websites of those programs:

e-Shram is a digital platform where workers in India record their daily working hours and wages. Daily-wage or gig workers who have an e-Shram card become eligible for a pension when they’re older. Their families are also eligible for insurance if they die, and if they are injured in an accident, they can access financial aid. More: https://eshram.gov.in/

Mudra loans offer non-corporate, non-farm small/micro enterprises or individuals funds for business expansion, inventory purchases, and other purposes. No collateral is required from the borrowers by banks. More: mudra.org.in

Aadhar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Indian government to its residents. It serves as a proof of identity and address, and is used for various purposes, including accessing government services. The Aadhaar card contains biometric data, including fingerprints and iris scans, which make it a secure form of identification. The card has simplified the process of accessing services and subsidies (government welfare schemes) because it eliminates the need for multiple identity documents. It is also used for targeted delivery of government schemes and benefits, ensuring that they reach the intended beneficiaries. https://uidai.gov.in/

Permanent Account Number (PAN card) is a ten-character alphanumeric identifier issued by India’s Income Tax Department that is important for banking. The PAN card serves as a universal identification for financial transactions.

The PAN card is also becoming mandatory for opening a new bank account or a new landline or mobile telephone line. The PAN card is accepted as valid proof of identity and age and can be used as proof of identity when making an application for a passport, voter ID, or driving licence. It is also required to buy, sell, or rent property like vehicles. Without it, rural people are hampered and cannot always move forward with their small businesses or jobs.

Know Your Customer (KYC) is a mandatory procedure in India that helps banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions verify prospective customers’ addresses and identities before conducting transactions. We help rural people fill out a form online so they can have a bank account.

Ayushman Bharat protects poor families against catastrophic health costs during hospitalization. It provides up to $68,000 (INR 500000) per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. We help rural people sign up for this important protection.
